SONS OF TEMPERANCE
Annual Meeting in Christchurch The annual meeting of the Sons of Temperance Friendly Society was held in the Perseverance Hall, Gloucester Street, Christchurch, recently. Bro. G. R. Simpson, most worthy patriarch (Wanganui) presiding. Representatives were present from Wanganui, Wellington. Rangiora, Kaiapoi, and Christchurch. The M.W. patriarch gave a very good report, which whs received and adopted, as was the annual report and bal-ance-sheet. The sick and funeral fund stood at £30,579/17/5, an increase of £989/16/7, the management fund at £384/15/11, and the representation fund at £lOO/9/6. The election of officers resulted as follows;—M.W. patriarch, Bro. W. Fergie (Perseverance Div.); M.W. associate, Bro. C. S. Clements (Excelsior Div.) , M.W. scribe, Bro. J. 11. Jones (Addington Div.) ; M.W. treasurer, Bro. E. Billcliff (Addington Div.); M.W. chaplain, Bro. C. Bennett (Kaiapoi Div.) ; M.W conductor, Bro. T. C. Parsons (Wellington Div.) ; M.W. sentinel, Bro. P. F Clements (Addington Div.) ; M.W. trustees, Bros. Ford, Kent, and Crawley: M.W. auditors. Bros. V. Bedwell and G G. Woodham;’ organist, Bro. F. L. Ilitchens. The newly-elected offiqers were installed by Bro. W. Grenfell. P.M.W. patriarch, assisted by Bro. W. C. Noakes, P.M.W. patriarch. The quinquennia] report was submitted, showing a surplus of funds of £8468, which will be used to increase the benefits of members. A new rule was passed granting immediate benefits to new male members. The Hope of Sydenham Division was successful in winning the membership shield with an increase of 12 per cent., Excelsior being second with 9.34 per cent, increase. Bro. W. Fergie, on behalf of the national division, presented Bro. W. Noakes with the order’s jewel, in recognition of his services.
It was decided to hold the next meeting at Rangiora.
