Ten Canadian Vessels PURCHASE: PRICE, £160,000 (Received May 1, 12.45 a.m.) London, April 30. A syndicate comprising the Commonwealth and Dominion Line, the New Zealand. Shipping Company and the Ellerman, Bucknail Line has purchased for £160,000 the remaining vessels of Hie Canadian Government Merchant Marine. They- will maintain the Halifax-Aus-tralia service. A cable published yesterday stated that the Ottawa correspondent of the “New York Times” eaid that the Canadian Government was negotiating with Australian and New Zealand Interests for the sale of the last 10 vessels of the Government merchant marine, which originally numbered 63 vessels and into which Canada sank over 150,000,000 dollars. OTHERS IN THE FIELD? (Received April 30. 9.55 p.m.) Sydney, April 30. The “Sun” says that although nothing definite is known at Sydney, it is thought that a combination of Sydney, Melbourne and the South Island of New Zealand business interests is interested in the 10 remaining ships of the. Canadian Merchant Marine. The “Sun” points out that a Sydney man, reported to have strong financial backing, went to London sqme weeks ago with a secret mission, while 3 Melbourne firm with ambitions to extend is regarded as likely to participate in negotiations for the purchase of the ships. The “Sun” adds that the South Island of New Zealand has long been agitating for a direct service with Australia and the Canadian market. P. & O. SHIPS SOLD (Received May 1, 12.45 a.m.) London, April 30. The P. and O. Company’s branch line vessels, Balranald, Baradine, Barrabool and Bendigo, have been sold to ship-breakers for £26,000 each.
