NEW DEVELOPMENT
* Agitation Against Hanging Of Youths (Received April 30, 10.40 p.m.) Sydney, April 30. A further development in the agitation against the decision to hang two youths, Hickey and Jones, is a letter to the Minister of Justice, Mr. L. O. Martin, from Mr. Vincent Cahill, Dubbo, who is a nephew of the late Montague Henwood, for the murder of whom Hickey was convicted, and who initiated a fund at Dubbo for Hickey’s defence. The letter suggests that, while Hickey was a likeable personality, he was quite irresponsible. The letter informs the Minister that, while the writer considers he has a family connection, he has been impelled on Hickey’s behalf to reveal his knowledge of the condemned youth in a way that may react in Hickey’s favour. Hickey was a member of a Dubbo Scout troop, of which Mr. Cahill was scoutmaster.
