Public Stands Suggested

“People tell me they cannot get along the footpaths for bicycles,” said Cr. J. Cumming at the Petone Borough Council meeting last night. He did not think cycles were so much trouble as that, but he suggested that something be done for the benefit of- both pedestrians and cyclists by £Ee provision of stands for cycles as they were. provided in other towns. He knew the difficulty of making a cycle stand upright against a post in a wind. •

Cyclists could stand their machines up by putting the front wheels in the slots. The gratings were in lengths and served also as pedestrian crossings, while they were made so that the water could run under them The Mayor, ’ Mr. A. Scholefield, said the inspector would prepare plans of stands. Attention was drawn by Crs. Cumming and D. M. Dickson to the carelessness of the youth of the town in riding on footpaths. The inspector was asked to look into the matter. ;
