M.C.C. v. MANAWATU

Anniversary Day Cricket

Palmerston North, January 20.

The biggest attraction in the Manawatu for the Anniversary Day holiday is the cricket match between the touring M.C.C. team and; Manawatu, which will ' take place on Wednesday and Thursday on the Sportsgrbuuds, Palmerston North. D. Moloney and N., Gallicban are to play in the Pltwket Shield match for Wellington ajpiiust Otago at Dunedin on Thursday, and to enable them to assist MaiiawiOji against the M.C.C.,-special arrangements have been made to send these two players down by aeroplane on' the afternorm qf the second day of the M.C.C. match.

The Manawatu eleven is the strongest that has yet represented the district against any overseas team, aud several of its members, particularly the bowlers, are at present in- excellent form. Although the 1923 M.C.C. team played at Palmerston North it was against a combined minor associations team (Rangitikei, Manawatu and Wairarapa), and the only match which Manawatu lias actually engaged the M.C.C. in the past 20 years was in 1930, when Woolley made 125-for"flic M’C.C. find N. Gallieban took five wickets for 140 for Manawatu.

Special additional seating accommodation has been provided for this week’s game.

An old Manawatu cricketer has presented a bat to be awarded to the best fieldsman on the Manawatu side, and this should further stimulate the keenness of the fieldsmen.
