VISIT OF GRAZIERS

South Australian Party MANAWATU ITEMS Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, January 20. In the course of their tour of the Dominion, the party of 10 South Australian graziers will reach Palmerston North next Saturday afternoon, remaining here on Sunday and leaving on Monday afternoon for Masterton. Their itinerary will include a visit to Massey Agricultural College, and arrangements have been made by the branch of the Farmers’ Union, the Live Stock Auctioneers’ Association, and the Palmerston North 50,000 Club for members of the party to visit leading stud farms in the district. Visit of Cairns Band. The Cairns Citizens’ (31st Battalion) Band, which will be touring the Dominion next month, will visit Palmerston North, Woodville and Dannevirke. Under the baton of Mr. James Compton, the band will also take part in the New Zealand band contest to be held at New Plymouth.

New South Wales Bowlers. In glorious weather, the New South Wales bowders who are touring New Zealand played teams representing the Manawatu centre at the Palmerston North club’s green this morning. Five rinks participated and the visitors scored a narrow win by 107 points to 101. Manawatu won three of the five games, which were the best of 21 heads, but a runaway win, 33-19, by the New South Wales rink skipped by J. Purves brought victory to the visitors. Mr. J. A. Nash, president of the Manawatu centre, welcomed the New South Wales players and said that visits such as these gave great stimulus to bowling. Mr. T. W. The party left this afternoon for Wanganui, after which they proceed to Taranaki. Idle and Disorderly Charge.

In the Magistrate’s Court at Palmerston North this morning before Messrs. W. Low Black, J.P., and W. G. Ashworth, J.P., George Bryce Boyd, single, aged 27, a native of Scotland, pleaded guilty, fa a charge of being • deemed an idle and disorderly person. Detective E. Barling said Boyd had been arrested following complaints about his having slept for the last 10 days at the railway station and in a haystack at Terrace End. Boyd had been working for two years in Samoa and had come to New Zealand last September with a fair amount of superannuaticyi money, which had since been used up. He had been arrested for his own good. Boyd, who said he had prospects of work at Te Aroha, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months.
