TRIBUTE TO MR. ROBERTS

Resignation From Farmers’ Union Masterton, January 20. In view of his election to Parliament as member for Wairarapa, Mr. B. Roberts wrote to the Wairarapa provincial executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ L'uiou at its bi-monthly meeting to-day tendering his resignation from the position of president of the Carterton branch of the union, and aleo his position ou the provincial executive. “I am happy to think,” added Mr. Roberts, “that this step is made necessary only because of the larger -sphere of opportunity which I believe is available for ine Io help the farmers to an improved standard of living.” Paying tribute to Mr. Roberts’s workwhile associated with the executive, the president, Mr. Hugh Morrison, said that while they congratulated him on his election to Parliament, they regretted that he could no longer act ns chairman of the Carterton branch. Mr. Morrison felt, however, that Mr. Roberts should be invited to remain a member of the provincial executive. “He would be very useful to the executive,” added Mr. Morrison, “and lie could probably help us in many ways even if he can’t attend every meeting.” Endorsing the chairman’s remarks, Mr. J. M. James said that Mr. Roberts had been very useful to the executive, and would probably be even more so in his new position. It was resolved to send a letter of congratulations Io Mr. Roberts on his election to Parliament, and also io accept his resignation from the presidency of the Carterton branch with regret.
