RETURN ON INVESTMENTS

Sales recorded bu Dominion Stock 'Exchanges yesterday are shown in the following list. The return of 4 per cent Government loans includes redemption In the ease of 34 per cent loans the return is for the interest alone, and covers only the period for which the loans are tax-free.

Alexander Mines, Limited '. The directors of Alexander Mines, Limited. ill their ninth anlnial report, review operations for the year ended May 31, 1935. The mine was closed down from March, 1934, to July, 1934 (both months inclusive), owing to the employees being on strike. Consequently, during this period no crushing was done for the months of June arid Jlriy. • The retuths, therefore, cover a period of ten .months only. The total gold production for the period was 31440 z. Idwt., which realised £24,361 18/7. from which £2020/3/7 was paid in gold duty taxation. All the gold firoduc* ed has been sold in London and rfealisej prices ranging from £q/19/7 to £7/9/4 per fine ounce.

During the year one dividend (No, 10) of 1/- per share, representing £3750, Was paid.

Reference is made in the report to the “unfair burden” imposed by the gold tax. The directors state that they believe the' incoming year will he iuore prosperous for shareholders, provided the reef is successfully located below No. 4 level, and fulfils expectations. The' retiring directors, Messrs. F. W. Manton.-of Wellington, and (1. Lambert, of Christchurch, offer themselves for reelection.

Meat Shipments to Britain The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board is advised by cable from its London'office that the shipments from Australia. South America and South Africa to the United Kingdom during the first half of Auguit were as follow: — Australia P 12,303 carcases mutton: 15,668 carcases lamb; 381592 quarters beef (frozen) ; 202 quarters beef (chilled).

South America: 4245 carcases mutton; 23.832 carcases lamb;-220 quarters beef ■(frozen); 96.140 quarters beef .(chilled) South Africa (including .Soulhem Rhodesia) : 2972 quartets beef (chilledl The shipments from New Zealand to the United Kingdom for the first half of August were as f0110w50,040 carcases mutton: 270.026 earcases lamb; 5682 quarters beef (frozen) : 2040 quarters beef (chilled).

Butter and Cheese Markets Joseph Nathan and Co.. Ltd., have received from their principals, Trengiouse and Nathan, Ltd., London, the following cabled advice, dated August 28.
