Dominion Special Service. Masterton, August 28.
Speaking to a “Dominion” tepresentative to-day, Flying Officer J. .!• Buckeridge, pilot-instructor to the Wairarapa and Ruahiue Aero Club, stated that the relatives of the late Mr. Hamish Armstrong, who was last in the Ruahiue ranges recently wfine 11.'ing from Akitlo to Hastings, had donated Mr. Armstrong’s aeroplane, ZKABM, to the Wairarapa and Ruahiue club. - , The club officials have received official permission from Wing Commander T. M. Wilkes, Director of Civil Air Services, to salvage the machine . as soon as convenient. Flying Officer Buckeridge stated that, unfortunately, it is almost impossible to carry out any such work in the meantime, owing to the heavy snow and also the danger of frost-bite, through working under the present weather conditions in the ranges. He added, however, that as soon as the opportunity arose, lie and Flying Officer R. O. White, of the Hawke’s Bay and East Coast Aero Chib, together with Mr. IT. Preston, the Wairarapa club’s senior ground engineer, would visit the damaged machine, and make the necessary arrangements to have it transported from its present position. The aeroplane will be brought to the club’s workshop at Masterton, where it will undergo a thorough examination, with a view to discovering whether or not it will be economically possible to rebuild the machine, or whether it will be ip the better interests of the club to have it dismantled, and the good sections used as spare parts for the three machines which the club is at present operating. ll is hoped that the weather will clear and" improve in the near future, so that the salvaging operations can be carried into effect at the earliest opportunity.
