RECHABITE ORDER
Centenary Church Parade
The Bechabite Order completed its Wellington centenary celebrations by a largely-attended church parade at Taranaki Street Wesley Church on Sunday. The service was conducted by Rev. P. Paris, who welcomed the officers and members, stating that they represented an order which was recognised as a world-wide social institution, as well as the largest and wealthiest temperance benefit society. The lesson read was Jeremiah. 35th chap. After a summary of the founding and progress of the order, and eulogising its aims and work, an address was given on “Why Men Drink Alcohol,” the preacher taking as his texts Romans 14, verse 21, and Ephesians 5, verse 18. The anthem, “The Lord is King” (Trimmel) was sung by the choir, and a duet, “When I Survey,” by Miss Sutherland and Mr. H. Gardiner.
