Eastbourne’s Footpaths
Sir, —At a recent meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council, Or. Shearer made reference to the number of residents who made use of 'the roads for walking on at Eastbourne. Cr. Shearer is chairman of the works committee, one of whose functions is seeing to the maintaining of the footpaths. Unfortunately the state of these socalled footpaths is such that no sane person would attempt to walk upon them unless equipped with gumboots or willing to run the risk of . a broken, ankle. In wet weather many of the footpaths resemble ennals. while others which were dug up for water and drainage some mouths ago are like sections of a ‘boulder-strewn riverbed. If decent, footpaths are provided, Cr. Shearer and other members of the council will no longer be annoyed by residents walking on the road.—l nm, etc., RATEPAYER No. 3. Eastbourne, July 22.
