Butterfat Records
Sir, —In a recent issue of your, paper there appears a paragraph claiming a world's record for a Jersey cow, Richmond Posy sth. which at Hawkeebury College, New South Wales, produced 75,1891 b. milk, equal to 55401 b. commercial butter, in five years (note, 55401 b. butter equals 44321 b. fat). This is certainly a splendid performance, but also certainly not a world’s record. A New Zealand pedigree Friesian cow, Totara G.R. Buttercup, owned by the Piri Land Co.. Orini, Waikato, has the following C.O.R. production figures:
Tlie world's lifetime record production of butterfat is held by the Canadian pedigree Friesian cow Springbank Snow Countess, 8190.71 b. fat.- —We are, etc., N.Z. FRIESIAN ASSOCIATION. Wellington, July 20.
