Young Woman Seriously Injured HUSBAND ARRESTED Police Investigations at Palmerston North Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, July 24. With gunshot wounds in her stomach, Elsie Elisabeth Symes, a married woman aged 19 years, was admitted to the Palmerston North Public Hospital to-night in a serious condition. As the result of inquiries made by members of the local detective office, her busband, Manley Symes, aged 22 years, was subsequently arrested. At 6.30 this evening the police received information that Mrs. Symes had been injured by a gunshot, and were requested to go to the residence of Mrs. Henrickson, To Matai Road, on the outskirts of the city. Mr. and Mrs. Symes arrived in Palmerston North from Pahiatua about three weeks ago, and were staying wilh Mrs. Henrickson. Detective Barling. Acting-Detective Beaton and Constable Miller immediately went to the house and subsequently they arrested the husband of the injured woman. Symes was charged with assault, causing actual bodily harm, and will appear in the Police Court to-moriow morning. Mrs. Symes was taken Io hospital by the Free Ambulance. Iler injuries were sufficiently extensive to necessitate an immediate serious operation. The hospital authorities reported her condition to be serious at a late hour to-night. __________
