APPEAL FOR FUNDS

Jubilee Kindergarten It is tiie aim of the Wellington Free Kindergarten Association to celebrate the jubilee year by creeling their own kindergarten at Wellington South, to be known as the Jubilee Kindergarten. A section was purchased in Owen Street many years ago, through local interest and effort, and a building fund has gradually been built up by the members of the local committee and the mothers’ club. There is not sufficient money in hand to commence the venture at the present moment, but a special effort is being made in order that building operations may be commenced. Through the co-operation of the Wellington Gas Co., a kindergarten stall has been arranged at the Winter Show. A promise of £lO has been made by a subscriber interested in the development of this scheme, if a further nine persons will come forward with a similar amount. This fund is gradually growing, and it is anticipated that £lOO will be raised In this way. Those interested in child education and the importance of the early years of training, will realise the significance of carrying on the work in a kindergarten used solely for kindergarten purposes, where the child is in .surroundings specially suited to his ever-changing needs. To help in making the building.of a Jubilee Kindergarten possible, a privileged should be considered for not only is the individual associating himself with one of the most worth-while social and educational movements of the day, but he is also helping to establish an institution that lays the vely foundations of good citizenship. The Wellington Free Kindergarten Association raised £393 as a result of the penny trail contest with the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association.
