Clothes often become coloured in patches when left for a whilo in blue water. The blue will be evenly distributed if a tcaspoonful of salt is added to the water. ■ The new appearance and fluffy feel will return to blankets, which have become hard and felted after washing, if shaken -vigorously, hung on a line, and beaten gently with a clean carpetbeater. Prevent the iron from sticking, and obtain more glossy finish, by adding a spoonful of alum to the bold of starch. A. tablecloth need not be starched, and if anything it will look more glossy than usual, if half an ounce of methylated spirit is added to the last rinsing water. Unused starch can be kept for use another day. Place on one side until the starch has settled, then pour off the surplus water. Place the basin in the oven for a few minutes and the starch will dry into a lump.
