FIFTY-FOOT FALL
Drop From’ Fitzherbert Bridge ' MAN ESCAPES LIGHTLY Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, February 14. While working on the constructional work on the new bridge across the Manawatu River ; at Fitzherbert shortly after. 8 a.m., Horace Greer overbalanced and. dropped over fifty feet froffi the top of an arch span into the river. Fortunately he fell into the deepest part of the river, where there were eight feet of water, and escaped serious injury. Although dazed, he made an effort to swim to the bank and was quickly pulled out of the water by some of the other workmen and conveyed to a doctor, who placed several stitches in the cut on the injured man’s head and brow. Suffering from these wounds and general abrasions, Mr. Greer was sent home to recover.
