GOLDFIELD MISSION

Work of Australian Methodists Mission .activity in the heart of Australia’s new goldfields is the work of the Rev. L. Broadbent, of the Australian Methodist Federal Inlaud Mission, Who arrived at’Wellington on his way back after a period of furlough by the Tainui yesterday. He is stationed at Wiluna, in- Western Australia, not so many years ago an almost deserted settlement, now a modern town of 5000 inhabitants.

Low grade ore is found at Wiluna, but it is found in large quantities, and lias justified the company working there in installing £1,000,000 worth of plant. Nine hundred men are employed in the mines, working in three shifts, and ore to the extent of 45,000 tons is removed monthly. Many engineering experts are to be found on the staff, some of them Americans and foreigners. It was Mr. Broadbent’s work to establish a church and mission hall at Wiluna, 710 miles : away from Perth. He is one of eight missionaries supported by the mission, seven of whom work inland. An allowance from the Federal Conference of the Methodist Church in Australia enables their work to be carried on.
