R.S.A. ENCOURAGED
Re-employment Campaign
Officers of the Wellington Returned Soldiers’ Association have been encouraged by the results of the campaign held during August to obtain positions for returned soldiers who have been out of work.
The response of those who could help in providing publicity was generous and prompt, according to a statemen!; issued by the association, and some jobs have been found. The effort '
has been well and sympathetically received by employers and the public. However, the positions are still few and far between, and many employers who would wiliing’y give a job to a returned soldier are not at present in a position to do so. ' The association hopes that where positions are available application should be made to it.’ The association intends to continue keeping the just claims of returned soldiers before the notice of employers and the public -so that as jobs do become available returned soldiers will receive sympathetic consideration. Returned soldiers on the association’s employment register can themselves assist the effort by notifying the association or their local committee if they are fortunate enough to find work by their own efforts so that it can be aoted on their records and the way cleared to find other men jobs. Although it is to< early yet to claim decisive results from the employment efforts, it is felt that “a hole is being punched in the problem,” and that sooner than some may expect the ultimate objective of the W.R.S.A.—“a steady job for every employable returned soldier”—will be in sight.
