CHEAP ELECTRICITY
New Supply Association Meets ELECTION OF OFFICERS . Sixty delegates from as far anart as Whangarei and Invercargill metVt the first conference of the New Zealand Alunicipal Electric Power Supply Association yesterday. The meeting was held in the City Council chambers at the Town Hall, and the Mayor, Air. T. C. A. Hislop, presided. In welcoming the delegates, Air. Hislop said the association was not formed in any spirit of antagonism to the existing association, which comprised both power boards and municipalities. The association was newly formed to protect the rights and privileges of municipal councils. He stressed the point that delegates who were at present members of the original association w'ere not being asked to resign from that association. He added that out of 39 municipalities supplying electric power in New Zealand, 37 had joined the association, so that only two were left unrepresented. The most Important matter concerning borough and city councils was that of the cost of power from the Government. But the chief business of the conference was to set up and approve the rules and constitution, and to elect an executive. Air. Hislop said he was anxious to make it quite clear that there was no intention whatever of attacking any other association; their intentions were simply to protect their existing rights, and to preserve an open mind for the review of proposals to obtain for the community power at its cheapest rate. The rules and constitution were approved, and tlie following officers were elected: President, Afr. T. C. A. Hislop, Alayor of Wellington: vice-presidents, Air. J. Miller. Alayor of Invercargill, Afr. O. Morse, Alayor of Napier; the executive committee to include delegates to be appointed from Hamilton, Lyttelton, Stratford, Wairoa, Christchurch and Palmerston North. The appointment of a secretary and an advisory engineer was left to the executive committee.
