STEPPED FROM TRAM IN MOTION

Father Killed; Daughter Injured ACCIDENT IN AUCKLAND STREET By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, September 11. Through stepping from a moving tramcar in tipper Queen Street tonight. an elderly man, Mr. C. P. Shepherd, received fatal Injuries, and his daughter, Mrs. Meale, was seriously injured.

The two were travelling to the city from their home at Sandringham. Tlie tram had pulled up at a stop below an intersection, and when the vehicle was again under way Mr. Shepherd and then Mrs. Meale stepped from It. it is stated that the car/had travelled about t’ o lengths when the two passengers stepped off. Mrs. Meale was picked up some distance further down the street than her father. Both received head Injuries, Mr. Shepherd dying about n hour after the accident. Mrs. Meale later regained consciousness, but at a late hour her condition was reported to be fairly serious. A tragic feature of the accident is that Air. Shepherd’s wife is at Wanganui and Mrs. Meale’s husband is at Coromandel.
