Half a Million Fewer Out of Work Than Last Year IMPROVEMENT IN BRITAIN (British Official Wireless.) (Received May 8, 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, May 7. Another large increase in the number of workpeople employed is shown by the Labour Ministry figures issued tonight. On April 23 there were approximately 10.140,000 insured persons aged from 16 to 64 employed in Great Britain. which is 82,000 more than in the month before and 638.000 more than a vear previously. Most of the principal industries showed further improvement. Unemployed persons on labour exchange registers numbered 1.729,242 wholly unemployed. 329,913 temporarily stopped and 89,040 normally tn casual employment, a total 0f'2.148.195. This was 53,382 less than in the previous month and 549.439 less than in the previous year.
