DIFFICULT RESCUE
Crew of Stranded Coastal Steamer HOPE OF SAVING VESSEL By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received May 8, 8.45 p.m.) Sydney, May 8. The coastal steamer Nambueca, 415 tons, is ashore in a dangerous position at the entrance, of the Nambueca River. Four rocket lines failed to reach the ship from the breakwater. Later the captain and crew of the Nambueca were ordered ashore, and took to an open boat. They finally reached the shore by means of a line stretching from the ship’s bows to the shore, also with the aid of the boat. The vessel is leaking badly, and the seas are rising. It is hoped that the strong wind will swing the Nambueca into the open channel, and it is considered that there is still hope of saving the vessel.
