Win For New South Wales EIGHT-OAR CHAMPIONSHIP (Received May 6, 5.5 p.m.) Hobart, May 5. New South Wales retained the eightoar championship of Australia and the King’s Gold Cup. in a race rowed on the Derwent River, winning by four lengths from Western Australia, with Queensland third and Tasmania fourth. Victoria and South Australia had then boats swamped. . The crews had a battle against a head wind, with the result that the time for the three miles was 19mm, \364sec.. the slowest since 1884. Attei the first mile New South Wales took the lead, and although Western Australia made a bold challenge over the last mile, they were unable to catch the title-holders. Herbert Turner whs untroubled to retain the Australian sculling title, winning bv 20 lengths from R. Beauchamp (Tasmania), with C. Perler (Victoria) third. COLLEGE RACES (Received May 6, 5.5'p.m.) Sydney, May 5. The Pert li Head of the River race resulted: Scotch College 1, Hale School 2. Christian Brothers 3. The Brisbane race resulted: Brisbane Grammar School 1, Southport 2, Brisbane State High School 3.
