BEAUTY CULTURE CLUB

London’s Latest in Mayfair A beauty salon, which is also a kind of informal club, is the newest addition to the amenities London has to offer. When 1 visited it the other day I met a well-known Australian woman there, writes the “Sydney Jlorning Herald’s” London correspondent. She had discovered it before me, and was enthusiastic about the advantages of such an establishment. This salon has its quarters in a stately Jtayfair mansion. Huge open fires in each room give a welcoming and home-like air to the well-proportioned rooms. Clients are invited to conic in at any time and rest in the deep armchairs. They treat the place as a club rather than as a beauty salon, where one only attends for a specific appointment. There is a delightful dressingroom, and also a bathroom for the use of country clients, who may by spending a day in town. Here, whether they have a treatment or not they can bath and change, restore their complexions, rest at full length on comfortable lounges, and go forth refreshed to keep their next engagement. The treatment is as original as the idea of the club. Complete reposefulness is the keynote of the whole tiling. One lies in a quiet, darkened room, its restful vastness lit only by a lamp for the operator to work by. The treatment starts with deep massage of the spine and the muscles round the neck and shoulders. In this way the nerve centres are soothed, and the big blood vessels stimulated to carry away the body poisons. Then conies the face message, the operator giving special attention to I lie muscles at the side of the face that actually control the lines round rhe mouth, chin, and eyes. A marvellous instrument. recently invented in America, and only just introduced to London, is brought into action for stimulating the action of the glands. This is an electrically worked air percussion cup. that, massages with- the gentlest yet most insistent persuasion the glands round the eyes and the throat. It is a curious and delightful sensation, infinitely soothing. A rejuvenating mask is then painted on the face and neck, a chin strap firmly placed in position, and the client is left in a quiet darkness for a short, refreshing sleep. Ou waking a strong light is switched on. and she is given a hand mirror, so that she may observe the effect of Hie transparent mask. Every line is smoothed away by the action of this remarkable mask! The face is restored to a youthful smoothness.

After certain other rites, which include eye exercises (carried out voluntarily by'lbe help of two featherweight silver balls, which the operator rolls over the eye), one is made up with discreet restraint. One goes forth to one’s next appointment feeling and looking years younger!
