WOMEN’S ACTIVITIES IN WELFARE WORK

The members of (lie Taija branch of the Bible Society were much en couraged when the organising secretary congratulated them at their annual meeting upon their result being double that, of the previous year. The president, Mrs. Buck, was re-elected, as also was the secretary, Mrs. Burgess. Mrs. Wilson was elected vicepresident. The following collectors were appointed:—-Mrs. Balls, Jlrs. Maycroft, Jlrs. Fuge, Jlrs. McArthur, and Jliss Futler.

Bridge Evening, 1 A bridge evening was held recently at the Lyceum Club by the ladies’ entertainment committee of the League of Nations Union—-Mesdames J. Henderson. E. A. Israel, E. Maslen, and Miss Morgan. The room was bright and cheerful with chrysanthemums and other autumn flowers. The prize for the highest score was won by Mrs. L. Wilson, and Jlrs. 8. Andersen. Jlr. Ray Hollis won the prizes for hidden numbers. Tables were formed by the following:—Jlesdames R. W. JlcVilly, L. Wilson, and Mrs. S. Andersen, H. H. Sterling, B. B. Grange, J. H. Beaumont, C. R. C. Robieson, W. A. Simpson. M. T. Braddon, J. H. Rickman, J. H. Turrier, Misses Lindegaard, Ahern (2), and Gaynor. Women’s National Reserve. Last week the Wadestown branch of the Women’s National Reserve met at the home of Mrs, Leach, Lytton Street. There were thirty members present. Apologies were received from the president. Jlrs. Otway, and from Jlesdames Doctor, Hunter. Jlazengarb. and Seaton. An amusing competition was won by Jlesdames Eric Johnston and Waters. Songs and duets were contributed by Jlrs. Godier and Jlrs. Irwin. In the absence of the president, the secretary, Jliss Hall, thanked the sijigers on behalf of all present, for their delightful musdc, and a vote of thanks was accorded Jlrs. Leach for her , hospitality.
