General O’Duffy surprised his followers by presiding openly at an executive meeting of the United Ireland Party.. He declared he was holding an important conference shortly, but the programme was not announced. In view of the Ulster and Free State Governments’ attitude toward free speech he would remain at Dublin for the remainder of the week. The “Daily Mail’s” Dublin correspondent says that a secret meeting of General, O’Duffy and the United Ireland Party supporters in Dublin decided to defy the Government and carry on the movement. The meeting selected Mr. Ernest Blythe, ex-vice-president, to succeed General O’Duffy in the event of his arrest.
