SECRET FORMULAE
Protection in Stock Remedies Bill MINISTER’S CONSIDERATION The fact that the objections of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce ro the powers given in the Stock Remedies Bill in connection with the disclosure of secret trade formulae were appreciated and that be proposed to give further consideration to that particular provision, with a view to its modification, was mentioned by the Minister of Agriculture, the Hou. C. E. Macmillan, in a letter received by the chamber last night. With regard to the suggestion that: protection from the sale of “quack” or spurious remedies should be obtained by proceeding on similar lines to the provisions of the Sale of Food and Drugs Act, 1908, the Minister explained that the questiou had been given thorough consideration after it bad been raised last session, but it had been realised that it would be unsatisfactory. It was considered that the application of the provisions of that Act to farm animals would not meet the conditions to which the Bill was intended to apply, although those provisions could be modified to meet the desire expressed from time to time by sections of the farming community for legislation dealing with stock foods, proprietary or otherwise.
