AIR AMBULANCE

Work of Assembly Begun

MAY FLY WITHIN WEEK

The work of unpacking and assembling the Waco air ambulance which has been bought by the Wellington Aero Club, and which arrived by the Port Dunedin on Thursday, was begun at Rongotai airport yesterday morning. Flight-Lieutenant G. B. Bolt, the club’s pilot-engineer, is in charge of the job. The air ambulance, which was fully described and illustrated in “The Dominion” when the machine was shipped, is similar to the Waco until recently in use by the club in its general arrangements, but is even more adequately furnished and carries a stretcher that can be stowed when the aeroplane is required for .carrying its normal load —three passengers. The machine has a 210 h.p. Continental engine, which is 45 h.p. greater than that in the other Waco. The appearance of the machine as it emerged from the packing'case was striking. The colour scheme is red and yellow, and the engine is enclosed in a N.A.C.A. cowling, the first to be brought into the Dominion. Wheel fairings, commonly known as “spats” or “wheel pants,” will also be fitted to the undercarriage, to lessen the drag. It is hoped to have the new machine in the air within a week.
