Miss Phyllis Oliver, the Community Services Princess, first came before the public at the early age of five years, when she attained the first of a long series of successes as an embryo dancer at the Wellington Competition Society’s festivals, where for a number of years in succession she had an unbeaten record. On many occasions she appeared in Messrs. J. C. Williamson’s productions and with other companies. Patrons of the Wellington Amateur Operatic Society will remember her as principal dancer, with Mr. Leonard Younge, in the society’s production of “Tutankhamen.” She also featured prominently at the newly-formed Ballet Club’s recital. Always in the forefront in the cause of. charity, Miss Oliver will be remembered as “Cinderella” at the Mayor’s 1032 Charity Ball. Her untiring work in furthering the success of this year’s Coster Ball added to her numerous efforts in helping tile needy. Appreciation of her action in coming forward as Community Services Princess to assist in the forthcoming Confidence Carnival is found in the support being accorded her by the hard-working committee rallying to win for her the culminating distinction of “Queen of the Carnival.”
