Yesterday afternoon Mrs. Stone, president of the Ladies’ Aid Society of .he Chutc-n jf )br : st, Vivian Street, presided over a gathering -ff members, held to bid farewell to Mrs. Carpenter, who is leaving for Onehunga wi.h her husband, the Rev. W. G. Carpentci, who has accepted a call there. During the nine years Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter had been with them, they had done a great deal of good work, said Mrs. Stone. Mrs. Carpenter had for seven years been president of the Ladies’ Aid Society, and during that time she had been present at fifty-three out of the fifty-six meetings held. She had also been president of the young women's basketball team, and the sewing class. Mrs. Carpenter’s work had shown a remarkable consistency, loyalty, and friendliness, and all the members joined in wishing her every happiness in her future home, and strength to carry on in the new field to which she was going. Mrs. Callum said it had been her pleasure to welcome Mrs. Carpenter to Wellington nine years ago, and she voiced her appreciation of the work Mrs. Carpenter had done over that period. Mrs. Carpenter would leave behind her an example and influence which would not easily be forgotten. On behalf of the society Mrs. Callum presented Mrs. Carpenter with a tea set and crystal vase. .In a short speech Mrs. Carpenter thanked everyone for their generous thoughts and good wishes. A delightful musical programme followed the speeches, those contributing being Mrs. Shepherd, piano' solo; Mrs. Jarvis, Mrs. Willis, and Miss Hardwicke, songs; and Mrs. Goldie, violin solo. Miss Betty Day gave an elocutionary item.
