ESPERANTO CONGRESS
Wellington the Venue
In accordance with a decision reached at the fourth congress held at Masterton last year, Wellington is to be the venue of the fifth New Zealand Esperanto Congress, which will take place at the end of this year. At a meeting of Wellington officials of the New Zealand Esperanto Association and of the "Wellington Esperanto Club, held this week, the preliminary arrangements were discussed, and a strong congress committee was appointed. The following tentative programme was decided upon:—December 26: Morning, official opening, welcome to delegates, official photograph; evening, N.Z.E.A. annual general meeting. December 27: Morning, annual general meeting of the New Zealand section of the Universal Esperanto Association (in Esperanto) ; afternoon, selected lecturettes (in Esperanto); evening, concert and social.
December 28: Sight-seeing tour, supper. and formal elosing. Despite the adverse economic conditions prevailing, it was reported by the N.Z.E.A. secretary, Mr. W. H. King, that the membership, which is now spread over more than 70 New Zealand towns, had Increased during the year, and that the prospects of having a Urge number of Dominion Esperantists assembled in congress were bright.
