FINANCES OF CITY
Half-year Report
“INDICATIONS GOOD”
In tabling the report of the City Treasurer, Mr. C. Collins, on the financial administration of . the city for tiie half-year ended September 30, the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, stated, at a meeting of the Wellington City Council'last night, that the indications for the year were quite good. The estimated receipts for the full year, it was stated, were £068,825. The amount already collected was £160,640, but most of the revenue was received in the second half of the year, and. the last day of payment of rates before the imposition of the 10 per cent, penalty would be March 11 next.' The revenue collected for the. same period .last year was £175,207, being approximately £14,600 more than this year. The difference would, be accounted for by the fact that last year ihe rate demands were sent out on August 1-3, but this year, owing to the estimates being .settled rather later I han usual, it was August 25-28 before the demands were made. The arrears in penalties collected this half-year amounted to £17,507 as against £15,6.13 for the similar period of last year. , . The estimated expenditure for the year was £693,082, and to September 30 £200,626 had been expended, being a good, deal less than half the estimated amount. : . The state of the votes of the various committees were as follow:
