Y.W.C.A. RECEPTION

Miss van Asch van Wyck Entertained A reception was held in the Blue Triangle Hall yesterday afternoon by the Wellington Y.W.C.A. for women members and women’s societies. The body of the hall was filled to capacity, and the gallery had to be brought into use for the overflow. The decorations of Saturday night were still fresh, and ou the stage, with its Maori setting, Miss van Asch van Wyck, Mrs. T. C. A. Hislop, and Mrs. Gardner (Wellington president) sat round a small table, which looked as if it were on a plateau of the Southern Alps, with a glacier just behind it.

Mrs. Gardner introduced the visitor and Mrs. Hislop welcomed her in a charming speech, on behalf of the women of Wellington, after which Miss van Asch van Wyck spoke at some length on the world-wide activities of the Y.W.C.A., especially with regard to its significance in connection with modern life.

Miss Kirk, for the Women’s National Council, thanked the speaker for her most interesting address. A short musical programme was very much enjoyed by all present. Miss Ava Symons played first a “Theme and Variations” (Corelli-Kreisler) and as an encore “Poem” (Fibich). Mrs. Anna Ginn sang "Angels Guard Thee” (Goddard), and with violin obbligato played by Miss Ava Symons, the lovely old “Serenata” of TostL Miss Nora Gray played the accompaniments. A most excellent tea brought the afternoon to a close.

A pufilic meeting of welcome to Miss van Asch van Wyck and Miss Charlotte Niven,'world president and world secretary respectively of the Y.W.C.A., will be held iu the Concert Chamber to-night. A' Maori welcome and international taxleaux will be presented, and the guests of honour will speak on “Women and World Affairs,” and “Youth .Around the World.”
