VOYAGE AS CARGO
Ocean-Racing Yacht COMING TO WELLINGTON Dominion Special Service Auckland, J uly 31. The well-known auxiliary keel yacht Kestrel, a competitor in many ocean races and principally used in long distance holiday cruising, will shortly make the strangest voyage in her career when she will travel to Wellington as cargo in the hold of the motor vessel Port Waikato, minus her mast and bowsprit. Kestrel will be lifted over the side of the Port Waikato and deposited in a special cradle in the ship’s hold. At Wellington she will be delivered to her new owner, Mr. O. Dykes, of Evans Bay, to whom she has been sold.
The yacht is 38 feet overall, with a beam of 9 feet 5 inches, and a draught of 5 feet 9 inches. She is a very comfortable cruiser and a good sea boat. It is the intention of her new owner to use her for cruising in the Marlborough Sounds.
