WRESTLING CONFUSION
Resumption of Match EIGHT ROUNDS, NO FALL By Telegraph.—Press. Association. Auckland, July 31. There have been some remarkable scenes connected with wrestling at the Town Hall since it became so popular with the public during the past few years, but they were exceeded tonight when George Walker and Marry Manios contested a drawn match. No falls had been registered up to the seventh round , when Walker headlocked his opponent. Both went sprawling through the ropes and fed off the staging to the floor in front or the stalls. The referee, Mr. Sidford. counted the regulation 20 seconds, and as neither man had returned to ithe ring within that time, he declared the match a draw. Being unacquainted with the rules, many of the occupants of the stage stalls and the gallery rose to their feet and hooted loudly. Policemen, medical men and officials of the asso ciation rushed to and fro across the stage, apparently undecided as to the actual position, and the wrestlers returned to <the ring, gesticulating. After some minutes bad elapsed, Lie referee having left the ring and gone to the dressing-room, he was prevailed upon by members of the association to return, and the final round was contested. - ■■■■'..
The official announcer declared, on behalf of the committee, that each man had been awarded a fall and that with the consent of the wrestlers the bout was being resumed. At the end of the eighth round, however, no fall had been secured by either man and so the contest ended in a draw, the referee not giving a decision on points.
