I ' Kia Toa Suffer First Loss Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, June 10. Kia Toa suffered their first loss of the I season in the Manawatu senior club competition this afternoon, the victors being United, and the score 8-0. On the Oval, St. Pat’s offered surprising opposition to Feilding Old Boys, but a bad lapse in the second half enabled the latter team to score 13 points in a short time, and to win 21-16. At Feilding the town club drew with Massey College, 9-all. With only one more series of matches to be played before the conclusion of the round, the competition is very interesting. Feilding Old Boys, with five wins and a loss, head the table, but Kia Toa, with four wins and a loss, are a game in arrears. St. Pat’s with three wins and three losses are In third place.

The winners were the more finished team, and while dominated in the first half, they set a torrid pace after the change of ends, and a bright exhibition of open play resulted in frequent alterations to the score board. The Feilding Old Boys backs were a dangerous combination when on attack, but their efforts were nullified to a large extent by the number of infringements. United beat Kia Toa , Contrary to expectations, victory rest- ’ ed with United, 8-O, in the match with j Kia Toa, the winning pack playing an ex- , cellent game, and with the backs ready to attempt an open game, Kia Toa never ■ looked like winning. The Kia Toa for- , wards had an advantage in the hooking, , but more often than not they were pushed back off the ball and were consequently forced to play defensively. The game was hard from start to finish, and though Kia Toa made several incursions into United territory in the first half, the second spell saw them on attack on only < two occasions. McClelland scored a try in the first half. Penman scored in the second half, and McClelland converted. Mr. R. Akuira refereed. Feilding & Massey College Draw Each side scored six points in the Feilding-Massey College game, played at Johnston Park. The game was confined to the forwards throughout, and was remarkable for the large number of scrums. In the first spell Massey College scored two unconverted tries and led 6-0. Hard battling early in the second spell enabled Feilding to draw level by scoring two tries. By defeating Kata at Rata to-day, Marton Old Boyd placed themselves in an almost unbeatable position for the championship. Bulls lost to Hunterville, and Athletic defeated Halcombe. The scores are: — Old Boys 21, Rata 17. Athletic 16, Halcombe 10. Hunterville 16, Bulls 11. The match at Rata was one of the best club games seen in Rangitikei for years. It was a case of Rata’s weight and experience against Old Boys' youth and •lash, and the latter came out on top. At half-time Old Boys were leading 10-l-, and the major part of the second sped went without further score. Rata scored under the posts, and converted, but in the dying stages Old Boys secured a penalty and a try. Athletic created a mild Sensation by defeating Halcombe at Marton.. Hajcombe were leading 10-5 at half-time, and looked like winning, but Athletic played great football in the second session. I.eeping their line intact, and adding 11 more points. Bulls, who showed such promise early in the season, let their supporters down badly by going under to Hunterville.
