WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
Birthday Celebrations The' fourth birthday of the Stokes Valley Women’s Institute was celebrated on Saturday by a large gathering of members, residents and visitors. Following the singing of the Institute song, the President, Mrs Huse read a telegram of good wishes from Mrs. Summers, the late secretary. The dramatic circle presented an amusing sketch, “Mary’s Dismissal,” the characters being portrayed by Mesdames. Bramwell, Fenton, Rait, Cobby, Williamson and Wylie. The Success of the play, which was appreciated by the audience was largely due to the producer, Mrs. Cording. The dance portion of the programme comprised old-time dances, lancers, and jazz. The M.C. was Mr. Bramwell. Prizes for dancing were won by Mr. Rait, Jlrs. Rait and Mr. and Mrs. Grahamn. A beautiful supper was daintily served on dinner waggons by the committee. The cutting of the birthday cake was carried out by Mrs. Drew, the Institute’s oldest member. The cake was given by Mrs. Huse.
