Bushcraft in Ranges

Sir, —May I be permitted to add to tha very excellent remarks in your columns made by Air. Harper. I maintain it was the duty and one of the first considerations of the trampers to endeavour to assist the searchers, when they could be sure there would be searchers looking for them. If they had not moved when the storm came on they would have soon been discovered by the search parties, and could have weathered out the storm until relief came.

All trampers should be compelled to leave a note at the hut stating the direction they intend to take, and also to start a fire and keep it going.—I am, etc., EX-TRAMPER. Wellington, Alav 2.
