Criticism of Trampers

Sir, —In view of the exhausted condition of the four trampers when they were met by the Carterton party on Sunday, having been without food for four days, and exposed Lo al! the rigours of mountain climate for a fortnight, would it not be generous to refrain from comment on any remarks they may have macle at the time to Ihe effect that: they were never lost, ami therefore were never found? It-was a freak of circumstances that they should have run into a party out for a hike instead of one of the search parties, and after all the time and trouble taken it would have been a feather in the cape of the Tararua trampers had they been fortunate enough to bring the missing trampers back to civilisaton. They have made big sacrifices in equipment, time and money to go to the help of iellow-tranipers, and no doubt their services will be required on some future occasion. They have done their bit nobly and well. But don’t be too hal'd on the recited party I am, etc., CITIZEN. Wellington, May 2.
