SENATE APPROVES

American Banking Measure INFLATIONISTS ROUTED (Received Jan. 26, 7.45 p.m.) Washington, Jan. 25. The Senate by 54 votes to 9 to-night passed the Glass Banking Bill. The inflationists, led by Senators Long and Wheeler, d-ere completely routed. However, they expressed the opinion that the Bill would be defeated in the House. The measure is intended generally to strengthen the national banking system and to remedy the conditions under which over 10,000 banks have failed during recenj; years. It gives the Central Federal Reserve Board greater control over member banks. It divorces banks and securities and affiliates, and limits reserve funds for speculative operations.
