CROQUET TOURNEY

Wellington Championships MANY ENTRIES RECEIVED ’ Excellent weather attended the thirteenth annual tournament of the Wellington Croquet Association, which commenced yesterday morning. _ Games were played at Kelburn, Hataitai, Mount Victoria, and Wellington clubs. The entries this year were particularly encouraging, and the tournament will last probably for more than a week. The Mayoress, Mrs. T. C. A. Hislop, officially declared the tournament open at Kelburn, and drove the first ball. She was welcomed by Mrs. W. 8. Austin, president of the Wellington association, who also welcomed visitors from Manakau, New Plymouth, Hawera, Wanganui and Nelson. Morning tea was provided for the official party. A start was made yesterday on the handicap doubles. The tournament is under the management of Mrs. E. McKenzie, and the official referee is Mrs. W. E. Caldow. Mrs. E. Boocock is the official handicapper. Mrs. A. Ramsay is in charge at the Wellington club; Mrs. W. Bock, Victoria; and Mrs. C. Scott, Hataitai.
