AMATEUR SMUGGLING
British Customs Receipts OFFENCE DECREASING London, Dee. 12. Over £150.000 was collected in Britain in 1932 from amateur smugglers who had endeavoured to conceal dutiable goods, principally jewellery, liquor. tobacco, perfume, and silks. Travellers’ baggage has been so thoroughly examined since the wider imposition of duties that smuggling is decreasing. Only flagrant cases are taken to court. The offenders, mostly women, are often ordered to pay double duty.
