DEPRESSION’S EFFECT
Tax Yield in N.S.W. Sydney, Dee. 13. Giving evidence before the Royal Commission on Taxation, Mr. McMahon, the State Income Tax Commissioner, disclosed the effect of the depresssion on ft number of taxpayers in New South Wales and on the amount of rax assessed.
Mr. McMahon’s figures showed that in 192 S the number of taxpayers was 140,578. and the amount of tax assessed £8,282,463, compared will) 81.362 taxpayers and £3.026.890. amount of lax assessed, in 1931.
