BETTER SLIPE WOOL

N.Z. Woman’s Invention AUSTRALIAN INTEREST _ & Demonstrations of a new process for removing wool from skins which has been invented by Mrs. O. M. Hcdberg, of Christchurch, were given in Australia by the inventor and Mr. H. M. Chrystall, also of Christchurch, who both returned to Wellington by the Monowai from Sydney yesterday morning. Mr. Chrystall said that the meat and fellmongering interests in Australia werb alive to the possibilities of the process. Mr. Chrystall said that in addition to improving the methods of <lewoolling skins tlib process also dealt with skin pieces which were cut from the skins by butchers, and which wciv at present subject to a very offensive process of sweating. Demonstrations of the process had been given at Sydney, Melbourne and Albury. In all. approximately 8000 skins were treated at these demonstrations. The meat interests in Australia were alive to the grbat possibilities of the process in that a class of slipe wool was produced entirely free of lime. The outcome of the demonstrations was the formation of a company in Melbourne to pioneer the process throughout the Commonwealth, and several of the largest firms were now going into the question of working details. He and Mrs. Hedberg had been specially asked to return in January to supervise the installations of the process in works. The process would be licensed to fellmongering firms on a royalty basis, details of which had been considered and approved. Tn Australia they had been very fortunate for they had had the benefit of the advice of Mr. R. B. McComas, a director of the Commonwealth Bank and a noted wool and banking authority, and also Mr. W. Gibson, general manager of Goldsbrough, Mort. The great experience and help of these two gentlemen had enabled them to make much quicker headway than would have been otherwise possible.
