COATS FOR AUTUMN

Rugged-looking Materials

HIGHER WAISTLINES Dominion Special Service. (By Mavis.) London, Sept. 22. Materials for autumn coats are rugged looking and rough to the touch, but they are deceivingly light in weight. Almost all of them look hand-woven. Another deceit. The Waist-lines are a little hignei and snug-fitting; also many of the coats favour raglan sleeves. Soft cashmere woollens and long-haired Angoras are the materials with which jerseys are made. To the military cut of sports suits is added the military touch of big. bright buttons. Usually the buttons are large chromium discs, but one amusing suit is decorated with heroically enlarged hooks and eyes. For the winter coat black and dark grey are preferred—-in contrast to brown for autumn. Many of the collars are cape-like in cut, drooping down over the shoulders. Fur collars ,have changed a great deal for the coming winter. The long collar in. the flat pelts of astrakhan and broadtail is giving way to shorter and broader ones in long-haired furs, such as fox, wolf, skunk, and opossum. Fur Is not being used on the sleeve?, for the cuffs of the coat material are shaped at the wrist.
