BOWLS TOURNAMENT

Dominion and Centre SMALLER ENTRIES IN Entries for' the annual tournaments of the New Zealand Bowling Association, and the Wellington Centre rinks tournament, c-ommeuciug on Boxing Day, closed on Saturday, aud on the wnole show a small decrease on last year’s figures. For tbe Dominion events tne figures are as follow: —Kinks, 100, against 102 last year; pairs, 156, a decrease of IS, and singles 111, a decrease of 53. The decrease is mainly in South Island entries, no doubt due to tbe economic crisis. Fully two-thirds of tbe entries for the rinks are from the North Island, which include 44 from 'Wellington, but only 10 from Auckland, and 14 from other centres. One entry for the rinks, event has been recciveil from Australia, but as an' Australian mail is due to-day, which left Sydney before entries closed, it is possible there may be one or two more rinks from the other side.

Messrs. S. Little, Melbourne; R. L. Armstrong, Sydney; R. Rogerson, Perth ; and W. J. Beislcy, Fremantle, have entered for the singles, aud two or three will also enter the pairs. The singles championship will be played on Monday and Tuesday, January 9 and 10, on the two-life system; the pairs on the .two following days,, a three-bowl event with five games of seejion play; and the rinks commence on Friday; January 13. Ln the last event there will be four days of section play, two games of 25 hctals per day. Post-sec-ti'on play will be on the two-life system, with three games of 21 heads each per day.

The greens selections committee will inspect greens to-day prior to completing the plans fog the tournament. The headquarters of tbe tournament will be at Wellington Bowling Club. CENTRE TOURNAMENT There are 36 entries for the Centre tournament during the ChristmasnNew Year holidays, but this number may possibly be supplemented by some which were not quite in order. As many Wellington bowlers are playing in tbe Dominion tournament, they canuot spare the time to play in the Centre tournament also. Sectional play will take place on suburban greens in order to save the city greens for the Dominion tournament.
