FOREST-FIRE DANGER
Whiteman’s Valley Risks Relief workers in Whiteman's Valley must not light roadside fires, which are a potential danger to the forest of young trees planted there. This decision was made at yesterday’s meeting of the Hutt County Council, when a letter was received from the fire ranger, Mr. H. S. Turvey, complaining that a county employee had disregarded his warning about the lighting of roadside fires, and had replied when spoken to tt\at he would light fires when and where he liked. “It is so short-sighted of these chaps to endanger the young trees which in the future may give them employment, commented the county chairman, Mr. D. R. Hoggard.
