PENCE FOR WORKLESS

Aim of “Happiness Week” APPEAL FOR ASSISTANCE The public response to the preliminary activities connected with the Mayor’s “Happiness Week,” has been most gratifying, it Is stated, and augurs well for the week Itself, which is dated from November 26 to December 3. The sponsors of the week are endeavouring to collect sufficient money to help all the Wellington unemployed. Mr. D. D. McDonald, who was . responsible for the “Cinderella Ball,” Is in charge of “Happiness Week,” and has made the promise that the forth J coming week’s activities will be full of unusual entertainment and fun. “The ‘penny drive,’ which has been instituted among business firms during the past week.” he said, “has met with such a generous response that for ‘Happiness Wek’ itself it is anticipated that a response in equal proportion will be rpade by the general public. “The Mayor’s ‘Happiness Week’ commends itself to the finer instincts of all as an opportunity to add to a common fund just as much as one Is able to give. If everyone in Wellington gave a few pennies each to the ‘Happiness Week’ activities which have been planned, then the Mayor’s distress fund would receive an appreciable sum.”
