APPRENTICES’ LAW

Amending Legislation BILL FOR NEXT WEEK Providing for the consolidation and simplification of the present apprentices’ law, an Apprentices Act Amendment Bill will be introduced in the House on Tuesday by the Government, and will in all probability be referred to the Labour Bills Committee. The Bill Is not, strictly speaking, the outcome of the investigation into unemployment among boys which was recently conducted by Mr. A. E. Ansell', M.P., and Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., for their complete report has not yet been received by the Government. ..It is understood, however, that the Bill does seek to facilitate the employment of apprentices. Announcing the introduction of the Bill, the Prime Minister, Rt Hon. G. W. Forbes, said last evening that the apprenticeship problem was not as serious as it appeared a year ago. The passing of the amendment to the I.C. and A. Act, he thought, had eased the position considerably.
