WEEK-END GOLF

Manor Park Ladies WIN FOR MISS STEVENS The final for the Mauor Park ladies' club’s championship was played during the week-end and resulted in Miss Stevens carrying off the title by defeating Mrs. Butler by 4 and 2 over 36 holes. They had au even contest in the morning Mrs. Butler going in to lunch 1 up. Mrs. Butler took the nineteenth through laying her opponent a stymie, Miss Stevens knocking Mrs. Butler’s ball into the cup in attempting to get past.’ Miss Stevens then did three 4’s in a row to be 1 up at the twenty-second. Mrs. Butler squared the game again by recording a bogey 3 at the twentythird, where Miss Stevens found a bunker. Miss Stevens took “The Pines” in 6 and was 1 up again. They halved the twenty-fifth in 6, and. Miss Stevens drew 2 up by taking the twenty-sixth in bogey 3 to 4, and made 3 up by anexing “Cabbage Tree” (420 yards) in 6 to 7. Miss Stevens drew 4 up by taking the twenty-eighth in bogey 4. They halved the next hole in 7, but Mrs. Butler got one back at the thirtieth, which she took iu 5, and reduced the leeway to 2 down by taking the thirty-first in bogey 4. Miss Stevens drew 3 up again by taking the thirty-second in 6. They halved the thirty-third in bogey 4, which placed Miss Stevens dormie 4, and the end came when Miss Stevens took the thirty-fourth in bogey 4 .to 5, which gave her the championship by 4 up and 2 to go. In the final of the Manor Park junior championship Miss Fairbrother had a decisive win over Mrs. Burns in the final by 9 up and 7 to play. Miss Fairbrother has been right, on her game for some time and has been steadily reducing her handicap from junior to senior status. MANOR PARK CLUB The flight competitions commenced by the Manor Park club on Labour Day were concluded during the week-end. In the first flight, V. Hay won by defeating E. Rodgers by 6 and 4 in the final. J. Pope won the second flight by beating D. Porter, 1 up. The third flight saw A. Higgs beat IV. S. Barr by 1 up. The final of the Yankee fourball was won by J. Ogilvie and A. Radford, who defeated W. S. Barr and D. Cody, 2 and 1. A fourball best-ball bogey competition, during the week-end saw J. Burns and F. Page, H. Mchaffcy and V. Hay, and J. S. Pym and H. Boon tie with 2 up.

In the play-off Page and Burns won, with 4 up. A second fourball best-ball bogey competition was won by A. Radford and J? Ogilvie, with 4 up. The best scores in the annual eclectic competition were:— 11. J. C. Mehaffey. 52; J. Burns, 54: F. Page, 55; J. L. Barnard, 58; E. W. Brockett, 59; A. Radford, 59. The fie for the medal competition on Labour Day between D. Butler, F. Page and D. Cody was played off during the week-end, and resulted in a win for Cody with 81—12—72. MIRAMAR CHAMPIONSHIP The final for the Miramar club championship was played during the week-end, and resulted in W. Flanagan taking the title by defeating E. O. Hales in the final by 2 up and 1 to go. They had a very even tussle in the morning, and went into lunch all square. Flanagan turned'on brilliant golf in the afternoon, to stand 4 up at the 24th. They halved the 25th, and Hales then came to light with some hot golf to win the next two holes. Flanagan was 2 up as they headed for home, and, playing very steadily, eventually took the 1932 championship of the club by 2 up and 1 to play. Flanagan deserves the honour this year, as he eliminated both H. A. Black and J. H. Drake in the tournament. SHANDON CLUB In a bogey competition on the Shandon links on Saturday, K. Clayton won with a card showing 7 up, completing the course in 80. The- next best cards were:— D. M. Boyd (12), 6 up; T. P. McCarthy (11), 1 up. In the Saturday Morning Cup competition, Millward beat Lees, 7 and 6; Press beat Sutton, 3 and 2; Caldwell beat Worth, 2 up; Hebenton beat Car-

ter, 5 and 4; Rawnsley beat Pearce, 4 and 3. A. four-ball best-ball bogey competition during the week-end resulted in a tie between Hayward and W. Rodger and Letford and Taylor, who both finished 4 up, and will play off. MORNINGTON CLUB In the final of ths Mornington club’s junior championship during the weekend. McKinnon beat Carswell, 1 up. A stroke competition was won by P. McEUigott, with 84—-16—68, J. Wallace being close up with 75—6—69. The draw for the second round of the two-life competition is as follows: — Laycock v. TITAHI LADIES The medal competition for the Rona Cup, played by the Titahi Ladies’ Club during the week-end, resulted in a tie between Miss Bath and Mrs. Munro, who will play off for the cup. In the final for the Titahi Handicap, over 36 holes, Miss Davis beat Miss Flanagan, 1 up. The Titahi Ladies’ Club will close the season on November 6. HUTT LADIES’ CLUB The Hutt Ladies’ Club will close the season on Wednesday next, when a fourball will be played in the morning, players arranging their own partners and opponents. In the afternoon a one-club competition will be held. . Last week’.s bogey competition was won by Miss Young.
